getaway for kids
Metro
Toronto Zoo
is one of the best Toronto and Ontario attractions and top fun places
and things to do for the whole family and kids all ages.
The Toronto Metro Zoo
features over 5000 animals, 460 species and decent botanical
collection, from all over the world. This man made world's collection
of flora and fauna is divided by geographical
regions with several Zoo trails:
Visiting Toronto Zoo
Toronto Zoo
is one of the largest zoos in the world, where
animals are displayed inside the tropical pavilions
and outside in naturalistic setting. It is also
among the most visited and seen
Toronto attractions.
You can have a perfect weekend getaway if you combine this
Toronto attraction and visiting Niagara Falls.
If visiting Toronto
Metro Zoo for the first time be sure to grab
a Zoo map,
so you can organize your time and select interesting things to do
and see (if not the whole Zoo).
It would take you more than 8 hours to tour all the Toronto Metro Zoo's
trails and
see these interesting wild species. Since every kid is different, you
cannot say
for sure how much time it will take you, but one is for sure, you will
adapt your visit to your kids' interests and fun.
If you are visiting the Toronto Metro Zoo during the summer, be prepared,
since there
is very little shade and much of the Zoo is open to the sun. As there
is a lot of walking in front of you, it is recommended to bring hat
and sunscreens, lots of water and if you like, picnic food.
At the entrance, you might also want to rent a wagon or a stroller (if
you didn't bring one), for your kids. Once they get tired, Zoo's indoor
pavilions are good opportunity where you can take a break.
Another way to save time and to see the most interesting animals is to
take a Zoomobile, available to the passengers on several stations.
During the 45-minute ride, you can hop on and hop off as you wish and
see exhibits you like.
Toronto Zoo features few must to see attractions like; Kesho Park,
Gorilla Rainforest, Kids Zoo and Splash Island.
Kids Zoo's entrance is located close to the water games. With a two
story "tree" you can see where the action is, like:
prairie dogs that you can observe from viewing domes,
sand digging for bones, small animals...
Kesho Park is designed as an African national park with typical African
animals, bush camp, rhino midden, termite mound, elephant
tusks, several
watering holes and a large baobab tree. It is located 15 min. from the
admission gate.
Feeding animals, shows with animals and popular elephant bath
are very popular events, so finding the schedules and be there on time
gives you great opportunity to interact with nature's wildlife.
If you have questions regarding any conservation activities
there are zoo members that can help you.
During the summer you can even sign up your kids for the Bush camp, but
for ages over 6. You will stay overnight in a tent inside the savanna
exhibit, with a campfire hikes, some tours and meals.
The Malayan Woods, Indo-Malaya, African
Rainforest, Americas and Australasia Pavilions are indoor Zoo habitats
where you can easily spend
majority of your visit. Since they are enclosed, they are ideal for
cold, rainy and hot summer days.
Zoo also features jungles and tropical surrounding with orangutans, huge
gorillas, Great Barrier Reef with jellyfish, sea horses, polar bears
and much more.
