Skylon Tower

Skylon Tower... an attraction that features once in a lifetime view of Niagara waterfalls and its skyline

Skylon Tower is a vantage landmark of Niagara Falls. After Horseshoe Falls it is probably the most used picture on Niagara waterfalls' postcards.

This 236 m high Niagara tower was built in 1965 and since then is the tallest structure in Niagara region. The tower gives you an amazing opportunity to admire Niagara waterfalls and its skyline high above the ground, capture this breathtaking moment and share the romance in the Skylon restaurant.

Visiting Skylon Tower

skylon towerNow, you have many high raised hotels, which are giving you a splendid aerial view too.

However, Skylon Tower as the tallest structure is something exceptional.

The tower is standing high, as a beacon, above the crashing Niagara Falls, with a circular walkway, providing you a perfect 360 degree panoramic view.

The only way to get to the Skylon restaurant and the observation area is by the elevators. You can see these yellow painted elevators, crawling up and down, outside of the tower. There are three of them, and they were the first as such elevators in Canada at the time of tower construction.

No need to worry when going up, you are safe; the “yellow bugs” crawling outside of the tower are secured with special equipment that prevents any problem, even during the bad Niagara weather condition, like snow, wind and ice.

The ride is short; it takes only 52 sec to get to the top of this attraction. Once you are there, at the observation deck, not only that scenery is outstanding, but also you have an opportunity for the amazing Niagara Falls dining experience at Skylon restaurant.

The next you want to do is to capture these moments, so your cameras, camcorders, cell phones are must to carry.

The best spot to take Niagara Falls pictures is from the observation deck. This platform is installed outside, and even if there is no breeze at the ground level, you'll notice how windy it is high above the ground. And for your protections, there is a wire mash screen around the deck.

On a clear day you will be able even to see skylines of Buffalo and Toronto, and someone said you can see up to 8000 square miles.

Romance tips: You have to visit the tower during the night, where the illuminated waterfalls are lit in the color of the rainbow. If it is summer time the tower is open until midnight and during the weekends and holidays you can see another spectacle, Niagara Fireworks. All these combined with romantic dining experience will create lots of memories.

In order to save money on the entrance tickets, use coupons that you can find in one of many tourist info centers or through booklets found in your hotel. Many other Niagara Falls attractions and restaurants are covered in these coupon booklets, so it is a good idea to find one.

Once done with the observation and your lunch, you might want to take your kids to play some games in arcade area, and watch amazing 3D / 4D movies.

For you, we suggest you to stop by at the Starbucks for their famous and amazing coffee and freshly made cookies. It is located on Murray St. on the other side of Skylon Tower, facing Niagara Fallsview casino.
