The Shaw Festival Theatre is local but world-famous
theater, located in a small Ontario
town, Niagara-on-the-Lake. The Shaw Festival started in 1962, and
gained the
international prestige reputation for excellence and became a
world-class theater.
The Shaw Fest is probably the most important and finest attraction
that Niagara-on-the-Lake has to offer.
Thanks to the Shaw Theatre this "prettiest town" became recognized
worldwide,
attracting tourists from all over the world.
At the beginning, this popular Niagara on the Lake theatre festival was
created
and specialized in plays of
the
Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw.
Now, the Shaw Fest
runs plays like comedies, dramas and classics by
Oscar
Wilde, Anton Chekhov,
Arthur Miller work and many Canadian playwrights, plus concerts,
seminars, tours and
community events.

and The Shaw Fest combined can also be a perfect
wedding, honeymoon and anniversary destination.
Vivid colors of the beautiful parks and
gardens, lovely boutiques and antique
shops, historic sites, elegant historic homes, award-winning wineries
and its vineyards and proximity of the Lake Ontario makes the Shaw
Fest experience a truly memorable.
The packages are also available; with a romantic dinner, wine tasting
in one of the popular Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries, and evening
performance at the Shaw Theatre with a backstage tour.
Ten to twelve shows are presented annually and they generally run from
April until December, in three
theaters. All theatres are on a short walking distance from each other.
The first theater is called the Court House Theatre and it has 327
seats.
In 1973 the second
one has been added - The Festival Theatre, and it has now 869 seats.
In 1980 the third one has been added, The Royal George Theatre
and it has 328 seats available.
The Royal George Theatre and the Court House Theatre are located in
downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake and Festival Theatre is two blocks farther
on.
Shows run at 2pm and 8pm and sometimes they will have a lunchtime
performance, at 12:30pm. For Shaw Festival tickets, schedule and

Tickets are sold from $18 CAN to $110 CAN in a high season.
Discount tickets are available and here are ways how to save money:
- Look for Sunday evening performances, $30-60
CAN price range.
- For seniors +65 discounts are applicable.
- Save on previews, before its official opening,
25-38% savings.
- Book a Sunday matinee and add evening
performance
- If you are 19 to 29 years of age, $30 CAN is the
ticket price.
- Students at Festival Theatre pay only $30 CAN.
- Festival Theatre offers limited number of
balcony tickets for $30 CAN.
- Purchases before April 30 to save on tickets
for all season.
- Buy tickets for three or four shows.
- Book early, in January, February and the first
half
of March.
