One family getaway to Niagara Falls

by Peter
(NC)

Me and my family of four are planning to visit Niagara Falls this year. I have heard that Niagara is very expensive and since we are on the budget (we are not planning an expensive hotel room) we are looking for the best deal.

We are planning to stay one weekend (hope it is enough), or two days, and we want to see as many attractions as possible. I am aware that there are tons of things to do in Niagara Falls, but still, which attractions you recommend.

Our kids are still young, so if there is lots of walking that will be very hard for them. We are looking for family friendly or kids friendly activities.

Top five things to do in Niagara Falls with kids
by: Glen

1. Butterfly Conservatory, located on Niagara Parkway is the great family attraction per my opinion. You and your kids will see numerous butterflies while you are walking and enjoying the greenhouse establishment. And don't be surprised, butterflies will really land on you.

2. Great Canadian Midway in Clifton Hill is the kids' paradise. This attraction is mainly for older kids as there are tons of video arcade, games and rides. It is a noisy place.

3. Journey Behind the Falls is a must. Right under the Table Rock Center, the elevator will take you to the underground tunnels and there you will be right below and behind the might Horseshoe Falls. You will get a raincoat as there is so much wet fun over there.

4. Marineland is another amazing place to be. As you are looking for places that doesn't require lots of walking, you might want to stay there longer. This is a full day fun, with lots of kids friendly things to do, rides, animal shows, aquarium, even camping.

5. If your kids like animals, Birds Kingdom or Aviary is where you will find lots of exotic birds in the tropical environment. This is another great family attraction. It is not that far from Niagara waterfalls, it is within walking distance.

If you have older kids, Clifton Hill is full of small man-made attractions with museums, theaters lots of fast food restaurants,

If you can cross the border, check out the American side and Niagara Falls State Park, Aquarium, Cave of the Winds (for older kids).

And for the end, if kids are not afraid of riding the boat and being wet, than Maid of the Mist is what you should include in your visit.
