Falls Campgrounds
Tourist guide to Niagara Falls campgrounds, camping and tips for a good campsite location
When booking one of the Niagara Falls campgrounds and have a worry
free camping experience, there are many factors that have to be taken
into account.
Types of Niagara Falls Campgrounds There are two basic campground categories you can choose from: private and public.
Private
campgrounds are owned by private businesses or individuals, with RV
parks and campsites. You can see them mainly in scenic
areas, giving you a feeling of natural environment with many
outdoor
activities.
Public campgrounds are usually run by the government. They can be found
in national parks and forests.
When you first arrive at the Niagara Falls campground, you'll stop at
the campground
office and check in. Ask for the map of the campsite.
At some sites you can buy fire logs, to make a campfire, as it is not
allowed to use the branches from the campground.
Niagara Falls campgrounds - tips for a good
campsite, tent location and more
- Reserve a site that is higher than a level
ground, just in case if it is raining.
- Find a shady
spot,
but don't put your tent under the tree. If it is raining, the tree can
attract a lighting bolt, and when the rain stops you will have annoying
drops a long after.
- Be closer to the water source.
- Find an adequate
area for cooking, the one
which has a grill and picnic tables. Don't leave a campfire unattended.
- Niagara
Falls campgrounds have the areas for cleaning dishes. Protect the
nature and use bio-degradable soap and toss the soapy water away at the
designated areas.
- Garbage bins
should be away from the
campsite, don't leave food on the ground as it may attract animals
(raccoons) during the night.
