Why Journey
Behind The Falls is one of
the most popular tourist Attractions in Canada?
Journey
Behind the Falls is one of the two Niagara Falls Attractions, that will
take you very close to the waterfall. The other one is Maid of the Mist.
They both belong to the most fascinating tourist attractions in Canada.
 The
tour will bring you so close to the waterfalls, that even with
provided ponchos, you will get wet.
You will be amazed with the immense of water and thunder that
the falling water produces.
You'll experience the outstanding spectacle, with an impressive thunder
sound
and great scenery.
On
your right hand side, there is a Horseshoe Falls, Canadian Niagara
Falls.
In front of
you will be Maid of the
Mist passing by, and on your left side American
Falls.
There is so
much water crashing down to the basin below, from the height of the 13
stories and speed over 65 km/h. That is why
Journey Behind the Falls is
among top visited Niagara Falls Attractions.
Journey
Behind The Falls-Powerful Niagara
The main
Niagara Falls Attraction area is right where the Horseshoe
Falls is, and below high
raised and high
scale Niagara Falls Hotels.
There is a building there, called Table Rock Center,
with a variety of attractive stores. There, you can buy
souvenirs, food, clothes and inform yourself about what to see and
where to go.
Souvenir shop at Table Rock Center
The Table
Rock Center is where you will begin the Journey Behind the
Falls. This is your starting point for other Niagara Falls
Attractions
as well. If you came by car, there is a parking lot across the
street. It is paid parking, of course, like everywhere else in the city.

Very close
to the waterfalls, only minutes away, are Marineland,
Skylon
Tower, Imax theatre, Niagara Falls Casinos...
The
Incline Railway (the shortest
way, but charged) will take
you to the main tourist area, where the new Casino
is, and majority of Top
Niagara Falls Hotels.
Or, you can just enjoy the walk and take another route.
There are two ways. One is
through the Victoria Park, upstairs to the Skylon Tower. The second one
is using the Murray street. On your way up, you can relax and have a
coffee at the Starbucks patio.

Great adventure for kids
Once you did
all the shopping, it is time to
take an elevator down, to the great Journey Behind the Falls.
The elevators will take you 50 m down,
through the bedrock. There is a
series of tunnels that will take you to the Cataract Portal and Great
Falls Portal.
Then, you'll go to the Upper and
Lower Observation Decks, where you will literally be in touch with the massive
sheet of water.
As you are standing right in middle of the mist, be carefully if you
are using any electronic digital camera. It is better to buy a
disposable one.
Lower
and upper observation decks
It is ok to
get wet during the summer months. But, during the winter,
forget it. And, during the winter it is a special event. Because the
mist of the Niagara Falls freezes, forming nice
shapes of ice everywhere; on trees, rocks, buildings...
Journey Behind The Falls in winter
Like few
other Niagara
Falls Attractions, winter rates are
reduced.
Due to the ice conditions, lower observation deck is usually closed.
Once there, stay there for while, take some pictures
and enjoy the scenery. Nobody is rushing you.
The whole
journey will last up to an hour.
Not only that you will visit these observation decks, but there are two
tunnels that will allow you to see water cascading in front of the open
cave entrances. For your
protection there are gates, which will prevent from putting your life
in danger.
This attraction allows you to be amazingly close to the rushing water,
almost to touch it. It was incredible hearing them and have the feeling
how powerful they are - such a thrill journey.
So close to the Waterfall
The tour is
not guided. But, you
have an option to use radios;to get an interesting info. There
are some displays along the way, explaining
facts
about Niagara
Falls, this attraction and it's History.
This Niagara landmark is open Year-round except December 25.
Journey
Behind The Falls - History
Hundreds of
years ago, people from all over the world, were coming to
visit Niagara Falls, and wanted to be as close as they can be.
 The
first tunnel was built in 1880's, where visitors where taken
through the tunnel by guides and carrying lanterns. They used to climb
down on a spiral staircase, built in 1832.
The stairs were used for visitors to enter what was then called the
“Sheet of Falling Water” attraction.
The Table
Rock Center was built in 1920's; in 1950's observation plaza
was added. Even then, visitors where wearing rubber rain coats and
boots.
