Triggs Winery
Niagara Wineries
Things
to do on the Jackson Triggs Estates Winery Tour,
one of the Top Niagara on the Lake Wineries
Jackson Triggs winery is one of the most technologically advanced
facilities among Niagara on the Lake wineries and also in Canada. The
winery includes state-of-the-art gravity-flow assisted facility,
designed exclusively for the production of high quality VQA wines and
Icewine.
About
Jackson Triggs
Winery
This modern structure design was inspired and constructed as
traditional farm
buildings, with its wooden-frame roof, use of local natural stone,
aluminum framing and wide sliding barn door in the front. Jackson
Triggs winery is truly different from its
neighborhood wineries, and the
main advantage is that the winery incorporates the principles
of
environmental
sustainability.
Wine making equipment provides high level of flexibility and control,
with the gravity assisted system instead of pumping, roto-fermenters
and open top fermenters. There are also other green features including
on-site
stormwater collection system, natural ventilation and roof construction
to
maximize daylighting and needed solar heat.
Once you enter the winery you will notice two sections: the public
space with
the tasting areas, retail shop, entertaining and administration areas.
The other side of the building is where the fermentation tanks are,
together with the storage and barrel cellars.
Jackson Triggs winery grows the finest vinifera on its 11.5
acres of meticulously tended vineyard with three classic varietals:
Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling.
Premium quality vinifera grapes are also grown on the 100 acres of
Delaine Vineyard which used to be an apple orchard. This property has
also
a research centre where different techniques and conditions are used to
improve the wine quality.
The majority of grapes planted on the Delaine Vineyard are red
varietals including Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet
Franc and Syrah. From white varietals you can find Chardonnay,
Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Semillion.
Today Jackson-Triggs winery is owned by the world's fourth largest wine
company and wine giant Vincor.
