Visiting Inniskillin winery

Inniskillin Estates is very easy to find thanks to the well marked Ontario Wine Route signs along the way from QEW highway and when traveling from Niagara Falls to Niagara on the Lake.

Inniskillin is now part of Vincor Ltd, the fourth largest wine company in North America and is the Canada's largest.

Once you arrive there the tour centre is where you will start your visit. Wine tasting bar and wine boutique are the places where to sample and buy one of their popular VQA wines. Demonstration Kitchen is the place where to learn about wine and culinary pairings.

When visiting the winery, keep in mind that their business hours for visits and tours depend on the season. There are summer and winter business hours; during the summer, retail is for example open till 6 pm, while public tours till 4.30 pm. Shorter business hours apply during the winter time.

Inniskillin Winery Tours

inniskillin wineryInniskillin winery is the historic winery and touring through the property is such a joy. As the winery is set amongst the lush vineyards, close to the Niagara River and with the picturesque scenery of Niagara Escarpment, it provides the unique opportunity for winery tours, culinary and wine experience.

Your journey will start right from the parking lot, with the appearance of the rustic barn, and shiny, stainless steel tanks and further touring the vineyards and stemware seminars. The tour can be set for groups, pre-arranged and customized. In the underground area you'll find a wine library and barrel cellar that offers a private space for wine tasting.

Brae Burn Barn built in 1920's is one of the Inniskillin landmarks that houses the retail store and gallery and features culinary and wine demonstrations.

The Founders' Hall, used to be a place to store oak barrels for wine aging. Today, the Hall is the major gathering spot, for dining events, public and private functions, while interacting with the chef in the Demonstration Kitchen. Inside the Hall, there is a private tasting room called Riedel Room.

Piazza is for the outdoor gathering and summer grill with picnic tables among the lush vineyards. You'll also participate in the interactive evening with the variety of wine and culinary stations.

For some tours, like daily public self-guided tours, there is no need for reservations. It cost $5 and it will take you up to an hour to experience the art of winemaking, grape varieties grown in Ontario, harvesting and barrel-aging...

There are also private winery tours like Inniskillin Classic Tour. The Classic Tour is an informative and interesting tour with the history elements of the Inniskillin winery and its founders. The nice part is where you will hear an amusing story of the winemaking process from the vineyards to the wine bottle. It cost $10 and it includes two VQA wine samples and one Icewine.

More expansive private tours are Icewine and Stemware experience ($30-$35) that will guide you through the Vidal Icewine tasting, food and wine pairing or pairing Inniskillin Cabernet Franc Icewine with the chocolate. The Riedel Stemware Tour is where you will learn about glassware producer Riedel and how stemware shape and design can improve the wine tasting experience.

Inniskillin winery makes its contribution to many Niagara events and festivals held throughout Niagara peninsula, including Icewine festival, Food and Wine, while it provides its own, specially designed events like Rustic Vineyard Fare and Inniskillin Cool Culinary Experience.

Icewine is also used as the "secret ingredient" in many restaurants and by famous chefs, to add the great effect, in savoury sauces, marinades, ices, compotes, glazes, chutneys and dessert sauces.

Inniskillin is the pioneer and world leader in Icewine making. The winery sells the Icewine to over 59 countries around the globe and is the number one distributed wine in Global Travel Retail.
