Icewine Festival
Winter
in Niagara Falls and Top Wine Country Event
Icewine festival is one of the top Niagara Falls events and winter
festivals in North America, when thousands of people are celebrating
Ontario and Canada's most cherished product Niagara Icewine.
Niagara Ice wine festival is an amazing winter activity that you can
visit every year, somewhere in the middle of January.
My Icewine Festival Experience
The whole Niagara region is part of this 10-day celebration where many
wineries, hotels, motels are inviting not only wine lovers but anyone
to try this winter spectacle.
So why this part of Ontario and Canada?
Ontario and Niagara Icewine is the world known product and this
province is the world leader in creation of this wine jewel. Starting
from the very first Ice wine, produced here by Hillebrand Estates, and
now in offer by many other wineries, this dessert wine brings the
highest awards from around the world.
Since it is January, you will see that cold and snow will make the
whole experience typically Canadian. Being outside on minus 10 C... yes
it is really cold, but keep in mind that this is the ideal temperature
for Icewine grape hand-picked harvest.
According to regulations, Icewine grapes can only be harvested when
temperatures are below -8 degrees Celsius. It is that challenging and
hard to make this grape nectar, that is why it is appreciated.
Icewine festival is about wine but also great opportunity to try local
cuisine and enjoy culinary masterpiece. This winter happening also
includes Gala evening, ornate ice bars, winery tours and wine sampling,
carriage rides concerts and much more.
Ice sculptures are chiseled out of boulders of ice and there are some
spots where outdoor bars and cafe tables are also carved entirely from the
ice. Unfortunately these Icewine bars are crowded into tiny little
tents not fit for all the visitors coming into them.
Icewine Touring Passports is available for reasonable price giving you
an access to seminars, admission into most of the events during the
10-day Icewine festival, free Icewine tastings...
Top wineries like Jackson-Triggs, Inniskillin, East Dell Estates and
other are there handing samples of their vineyard's Ice wine.
In 2009 festival Icewine Gala took place at the Fallsview Casino Resort
in Niagara Falls city, with top VQA wine showcases from over 30 top
Ontario wineries, Niagara Cuisine and live entertainment.
Outdoor Icewine tasting, ice carving, local gastronomy and
entertainment had its role in the heart of the Twenty Valley, Jordan
village and a Winterfest in downtown of St. Catharines.
Icewine Festival and Tours
Taking a tour throughout Niagara region is surely exciting, but our
recommendation is to enjoy charming Niagara-on-the-Lake town, stroll
down Queen Street and visit its unique boutiques, sweet restaurants and
galleries.
By visiting NOTL pamper yourself with the overnight stay in the amazing
Victorian style hotel Prince of Wales, Pillar and Post Inn or
outstanding Sterling Inn and Spa, have a tea or brunch at the onsite
restaurants.
If you prefer countryside and scenic winter, winery tour with the
unforgettable events is there for you. Jackson-Triggs, Inniskillin,
Reif Estate are only few of many Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries where you
can fill the winter magic in the glass of local wine, enjoy in sipping
winter cocktails while pairing Icewines and other VQA wines with the
tasty cheese.
All-inclusive weekend packages with two nights' accommodation in high
class hotels, all festival activities, Gala evening and winery bust
tours transportation are also in offer.
