Hillebrand
Winery - Niagara Wineries
Things
to do on the Hillebrand Estates Winery Tour
Hillebrand Restaurant Review
Hillebrand
winery was established in
1979 and is one of the two oldest and the most established wineries
in Niagara region. Hillebrand is the large property
that kept
its
original design and after spending over 3 million dollars in renovation
it offers extensive
facilities with several buildings designed for wine making, wine shop,
barrel cellar and winery restaurant.
The
renovation helped also in improving the wine making technology and wine
quality. Their VQA premium wines are mainly for mass market but you can
also
browse the rare vintages in the wine boutique.
Hillebrand
winery became popular with the early brands as Schloss Hillebrand and
the initial Rieslings. Thanks to the international investment, winery
started growing very quickly. From 1991 after Inniskillin
pioneered Icewine making, received international awards and
became
recognized for the wine quality, Hillebrand Estates joined the
production of
award-winning Icewines from Niagara.
Today the winery has over 300 awards, produces over 25000
cases of Riesling in several
styles and many other excellent varietals from small batches of Pinot
Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet to Ice wine.
Hillebrand winery is owned by the family of Andres
Wines, second-largest wine company in Canada, who is also the
owner of well known Peller
Estates winery.

wines, winemaking process and also how to identify
regional taste and aroma
essences.
The
investment that took place several years ago helped the winery
with the improved look and
to increase the outdoor tasting spots. At the same time two-story stone
structure called Winemaker Lookout that overlooks vineyards became one
of the must to see attractions in wine region.
Tasting bar is the place where you
can sample of three preselected wines, for a small charge of $5, or
select your own wine. Table wines prices are in a range from 10 to 80
bucks.
Hillebrand Estates winery is open year round for visits and every
season
there are some happenings. The winery plays host to a variety of
special events,
including weekend concerts and bicycle tours.
The most popular events, where the Hillebrand winery is the host are
two Niagara annual music events; jazz
festival in July and blue festival in August.
Even if you don't find any happenings during your visit, there are so
many other things to do inside the winery or vineyards.
An elegant tasting room, The Collector's Boutique, is where you
can buy Hillebrand's best wines. The Collector's Boutiques features
older wines that are available only at the winery.
Icewine tour,
during January, is offered daily where you can hear about the process
of
ice wine making, from picking the grapes, pressing the frozen
grapes to
the art of winemaking, and end with Ice wine tasting.
There are also hands-on seminars, or Trius Art of Red blending
tour, where you are
actually making your own wine, your own version of Trius Red,
by
blending two red wines, Merlot and Cabernet. This
tour focuses on the detail winemaking and barrel aging process,
Icewine and sparkling wine tours.
You
will also have an opportunity to visit Trius Sparkling Wine Cellar, the
largest of its kind in Canada with over a quarter of a million bottles
of Trius Brut, made in the traditional method. Trius is the Niagara’s
benchmark wine, made of selection of
the best Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes.
If tired from the touring, we recommend taking a break for an hour
or
two at the Wine Lounge, while sipping your favorite wine and sampling
artisanal cheeses.
