Balls
Falls Conservation Area, with its 80 hectares of scenic land,
natural beauty and historic sites, offers a unique experience for
Niagara visitors.
Ball's Falls area is situated at the edge of the
picturesque Niagara Escarpment
and offers lots of opportunities for some amazing photos. This scenic
area features two small waterfalls, an operation mill,
church, barn, nature trails and many historic buildings from 19th
century.
Everything started in the early 19th century, when John and George Ball
established a mill, coopers shop to produce barrels and blacksmith shop
to produce hoops for the barrels.
For some time, Balls's Falls area with additional five story mill for
processing
wool and two lime kilns became a local center for the newly colonized
area.
Visiting
Balls Falls
You can visit these historical sites and learn more about its history,
but to avoid any hassle or disappointment
check the visiting hours.
Lower Ball's Falls with 90 feet in height belongs
to
the group of higher Ontario falls, while
the upper falls is only 35 feet high.
Waterfalls are changing its nature dramatically, from season to season.
In spring,
you can see a raging force of falling water, but in the late summer a
thin veil.

During
the winter time, even with the Balls waterfalls frozen, the scenery is
like
from the postcards, so lovely, where the water forms impressive ice
chandeliers.
The higher waterfall is two-thirds of the height of Niagara Falls but
the
volume of water is significantly less.
When visiting the upper, higher falls, don't be surprised if you see
kids
jumping over the waterfalls.
If you are visiting this part of Ontario region during mid-summer
droughts, to avoid any disappointment, Twenty Mile Creek
can dry up completely, and weaken your overall satisfaction.
If you are hiking, you are probably familiar with a well known Bruce Trail that
passes through magnificent land of Vineland region and Balls Falls
Conservation Area.
This trail shows its best in the fall, and gives you a great
opportunity for winter walks.
Another hiker's favorite trail is Cataract
Trail that starts from the
west side of the bridge across Twenty mile Creek.
We guarantee that you will enjoy this divine scenery, with its variety
of birds and
mammals and hundreds of plant species.
Ontario's official and famous flower, white trilliums
can
also be found
here, and it
blooms in the forests in late April and May.
The natural beauty of the area hasn't been disturbed too much. That
makes Ball's Falls area perfect for camping, picnics and photo sessions.
The Niagara's conservation authority offers many nature programs and
brochures that are helpful in exploring this beauty.
One annual event is also important for this area that draws a large
crowd of people. It is called the Annual
Thanksgiving
Festival Craft show.
This festival is always a big event and very important for this area
and Niagara tourism with many artisans
coming from Ontario and surrounding who are putting their talents on
display.
